If you’re planning your wedding, then you’re thinking about all the details: what will the centerpieces look like at the reception? How many appetizers will you have? But don’t forget the most important aspect: floor layout for the reception.
Here are some tips on mapping out your wedding reception layout that will help facilitate the flow of your party festivities.
Start with the Dance Floor/Stage
If you’re having a band play your wedding reception, they’ll be the main event. Create the layout around the stage, so that everyone can see it from where they’re sitting and it’s the focal point of the room. If you’re hiring a DJ, do the same but with the dance floor.
Decide what size and shape you want each table to be; they don’t have to match if you don’t want! It’s important to think about whether you and your bride or groom will have a sweetheart table, or sit with your wedding party. Wherever you’re sitting should also be close to the center of the room, so that your guests can see where you are if they want to drop by to say congratulations.
Place the Bars
You should have one bar for every 100 guests, so if you need 2 or 3 bars, place them strategically. One by the dance floor is always a good idea, but spread out the others to avoid congestion. Avoid placing the bars by doorways or catering entrances, since bottlenecks can disturb the flow of the meal for wait staff.
Leave Space for Movement
Make sure there’s plenty of room for people to move back and forth between tables, when there are guests seated at the tables. You don’t want your guests colliding into one another in order to make it to the bathroom! Make the aisle areas wide and easy to navigate.
